OSHA encourages hydration, rest, and shade as prevention for heat-related illness.

An effective prevention program is incorporated into a broader safety and health program that aligns with OSHA's Recommended Practices for Safety and Health Programs core elements:

  • Consume adequate fluids

  • Work shorter shifts

  • Take frequent breaks

  • Quickly identify any heat illness symptoms.
